Krystal Joy Brown, Kecia Lewis-Evans, Leslie Odom, Jr. Join Broadway’s Leap of Faith

Krystal Joy Brown, Kecia Lewis-Evans, and Leslie Odom, Jr. will be part of the principal cast for the Broadway premiere of the new musical Leap of Faith, to play the St. James Theatre, beginning Tuesday, April 3, with an opening in late April. Christopher Ashley will direct, with choreography by Sergio Trujillo.

The musical is based on the motion picture of the same name, and features a book by original screenwriter Janus Cercone and Tony Award-winning playwright, Warren Leight, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater. As previously reported, the show will also star Raúl Esparza, Jessica Phillips and Kendra Kassebaum.

The musical centers on part-time reverend and full-time con artist Jonas Nightingale (Esparza) and the town sheriff, Marla Humes (Phillips), who is determined to stop him.

Brown has appeared on Broadway in Hair, the national tour of Rent, and the Off-Broadway production of Falling for Eve. Lewis-Evans’ previous Broadway credits include Chicago, The Drowsy Chaperone, Once on This Island, Ain’t Misbehavin’, The Gospel at Colonus, Big River, and Dreamgirls, and she received a Drama Desk nomination for her work Off-Broadway in Dessa Rose. Odom has appeared on Broadway in Rent, and is part of the ensemble cast of new NBC series Smash.
