The French Institute Alliance Française in partnership with the Center for French Civilization and Culture at New York University is to present Courteline en dentelles (Courteline in Lace), February 29 and March 1 at 8pm in Florence Gould Hall. Jérôme Deschamps will direct.

In this series of seven short plays by satirical writer Georges Courteline, director and actor Deschamps pokes fun at the inherent foolishness of human nature accompanied by acclaimed stage actor Michel Fau. The two take up the gauntlet and affront idiocy head on.

Deschamps made his debut as a director in 1978 with Blanche Alicata and La Famille Deschiens at the Théâtre des Quartiers d’Ivry. In 2005, he was appointed Director of the Opéra Comique in Paris. Most recently, Deschamps directed Mahagonny by Kurt Weill for the Vienna State Opera in January 2012.

Fau has acted in the films of Albert Dupontel, Dominik Moll, and Olivier Py, among others and has lectured at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique in Paris and at École Florent. In 1998, Fau won the Gérard Philippe Award and in 2006 he received the Award for Best Actor from the Syndicat Professionnel de la Critique.
