The New Group has announced full casting for the world premiere of David Rabe’s An Early History of Fire. Jo Bonney will direct the Off-Broadway production, which will perform at Theatre Row, April 5-May 26, with an opening on April 23. The previously reported Lily Rabe has withdrawn from the project, due to a scheduling conflict.

The play is set in a small Midwestern town at the tipping point of the early 1960s. A few years out of high school, Danny finds his days defined by friendship and loyalty — but a confusing new world encroaches in the form of Karen, back from college in the East, alluring and unsettling because of all she has learned.

Theo Stockman and Claire van der Boom will star as Danny and Karen, with the cast also featuring Deema Aitken, Gordon Clapp, Erin Darke, Jonny Orsini, Devin Ratray, and Dennis Staroselsky.

The production will feature set design by Neil Patel, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu, costume design by Theresa Squire, and sound design by Ken Travis.
