Bryn Terfel to Appear in Metropolitan Opera’s Don Giovanni

Bryn Terfel will play the role of Leporello in Tony Award winner Michael Grandage’s production of Verdi’s Don Giovanni at the Metropolitan Opera on March 7, 10, 14 and 17.

He will replace John Relyea, who is now on vocal rest at his physician’s instructions. Kyle Ketelsen will sing the role on February 21, 24, 29, and March 3.

The production, which premiered in October, is conducted by Andrew Davis and stars Gerald Finley in the title role, Marina Rebeka as Donna Anna, Ellie Dehn as Donna Elvira, Isabel Leonard as Zerlina, Matthew Polenzani as Don Ottavio, Shenyang as Masetto, and James Morris as the Commendatore.

Terfel is currently performing at the Metropolitan as Wotan in Robert Lepage’s production of Wagner’s “Ring Cycles.” He performed the role of Leporello during the Met’s 1994-1995 and 2000-201 seasons, and has sung all over the world, including La Scala in Milan.

Terfel has recorded numerous CDs, including Bad Boys, and has appeared on stage in Sweeney Todd, among many other accomplishments.
