Steve Martin to Perform at Joe’s Pub in March

Steve Martin will perform with The Steep Canyon Rangers in An Evening of Bluegrass & Banjo at Joe’s Pub, March 15-17 at 7pm. He will be celebrating the release of his second full length bluegrass album Rare Bird Alert, which as previously reported, is being released on March 15.

The disc will include 13 original songs, performed by Martin, along with the Steep Canyon Rangers, the bluegrass quintet with whom he has also toured. In addition, the album will feature performances by Paul McCartney, singing “Best Love;” and The Dixie Chicks, who will deliver a song entitled “You.” Martin released his first bluegrass album, The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Bango in May 2009. It received the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album (Vocal or Instrumental) in January 2010.

His theater credits include starring Off-Broadway in Waiting for Godot and he is also the author of such plays as Picasso at the Lapin Agile and The Underpants.

Other newly added performers at Joe’s Pub include Joanna Erdos (March 11), Storm Large (March 15 & 16), Lady Rizo (March 18, April 22, May 20, June 17), Vanessa Rubin (March 18 & 19), and Stella Starsky + Quinn Cox (March 19),

As earlier reported, upcoming Joe’s Pub highlights will also include Rich Orlow in Ray Bradbury’s Farenheit 451, adapted and directed by Wynn Handman (February 23); the Murray Hill Oscar Party (February 27); Tony winner Levi Kreis and Eric Himan (February 28); The Civilians’ Let Me Ascertain You: Pretty Filthy (March 4) featuring Emily Ackerman, Gibson Frazier, Daoud Heidami, Nina Hellman, Jenny Morris, Dael Orlandersmith, and Brian Sgambati; Arts and Crafts: A New Musical, with a book by Sandra Bernhard and Justin Vivian Bond, and music by Bernhard, Bond, Lance Horne and Scisssor Sisters’ Jake Shears, and performed by Bond and Bernhard (March 7); and Leslie Kritzer is Leslie Kritzer at Joe’s Pub (April 17, 18 & 24), along with Broadway star Jackie Hoffman’s continued run of her acclaimed show Jackie Five-Oh.
