Roger Daltrey will offer a one-night-only performance of the rock opera The Who’s Tommy at Royal Albert Hall on March 24. The event will be part of the Teenage Cancer Trust’s annual week of music and comedy benefit performances at the venue.

In addition to performing Tommy, Daltrey will also perform early hits including material from Live at Leeds.

Daltrey, a founder and lead singer of The Who, appeared as the title character in the 1975 film version of the rock opera. Among his other screen credits are If Looks Could Kill and Mack the Knife.

With music and lyrics by Pete Townshend of The Who (and additional music and lyrics by his bandmates John Entwistle and Keith Moon), Tommy tells the tale of a young boy who loses his sight, hearing, and speech after witnessing a murder and then embarks on an amazing journey towards a cure and a feeling of self-worth. The opera first appeared as a double-LP record album in 1969 and the recording has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for ‘historical, artistic and significant’ value. It was made into a musical that played Broadway in 1993.
