Justin Guarini, Davey Havok, Van Hughes, Libby Winters to Star in Broadway’s American Idiot

Justin Guarini, Van Hughes, and Libby Winters will take on leading roles in Broadway’s American Idiot on March 1. They will respectively replace Michael Esper as Will; John Gallagher, Jr. as Johnny; and Christina Sajous as The Extraordinary Girl, all of whom will depart on February 27.

Davey Havok, the lead singer and front man of the rock band AFI, will play the role of St. Jimmy for two weeks, beginning on March 1. The role was originated by Tony Vincent and has since been played by Green Day frontman Billie Jo Armstrong and singer Melissa Etheridge.

The musical, which follows a group of working-class characters, features a score by Green Day. It is directed by Michael Mayer, who wrote the book with the band’s frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, and features choreography by Steven Hoggett. It was nominated for three Tony Awards, and won two.

The cast also currently includes Stark Sands, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Jeanna DeWaal, Declan Bennett, Jennifer Bowles, Andrew Call, Gerard Canonico, Miguel Cervantes, Van Hughes, Brian Charles Johnson, Jason Kappus, Lorin Latarro, Omar Lopez-Cepero, Leslie McDonel, Chase Peacock, Wallace Smith, Ben Thompson, Alysha Umphress, Aspen Vincent, Mikey Winslow, and Libby Winters.

The show features scenic design by Christine Jones, costume design by Andrea Lauer, lighting design by Kevin Adams, sound design by Brian Ronan, and video design by Darrel Maloney.
