Polly Bergen, Jeff McCarthy, Lynne Wintersteller, Tony Yazbeck, and More Set for American Musicals Project

Casting has been announced for a live Monday night concert series presented as part of The American Musicals Project (AMP), a Social Studies and English Language Arts curriculum program developed in collaboration between the New-York Historical Society and the New York City Department of Education. All concerts will take place at the New-York Historical Society.

On March 9, Sally Wilfert, Jim Weaver, Rachel DeBenedet and Aaron Ramey will star in Loesser Is More!, singing a selection of songs by Frank Loesser, whose musicals include Where’s Charley, Guys and Dolls, The Most Happy Fella, Greenwillow, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Pamela Hunt will direct, with Ted Kociolek as musical director, and Howard Kissel as host.

On March 16, Tony Yazbeck, Mike McGowan and Mark Jacoby will star in Songs For Men Only, to be introduced by Pulitzer Prize-winning lyricist Sheldon Harnick. Selections will include “Standing on the Corner” by Frank Loesser, Adler & Ross’s “You Gotta Have Heart,” Jerry Bock’s “Little Tin Box” and Harnick’s “Politics and Poker.” James Brennan will direct, with Matt Castle as music director.

On March 23, Polly Bergen will host a tribute to women songwriters, featuring tunes from Once Upon a Mattress, The Secret Garden, Fine and Dandy, Sweet Charity and On the Town. Lynne Wintersteller, Jessica Burrows, and Vanessa Lemonides will perform, with direction by Annette Jolles and music direction by Sariva Goetz.

The season will conclude on April 6 with a gala celebrating the making of Guys & Dolls, featuring performances by Karen Mason, Michael McGrath, Jeff McCarthy, and Garrett Long. Pamela Hunt will direct, Evans Haile will provide musical direction, and the evening will feature special guest, Jo Sullivan Loesser.
