Bill T. Jones to Discuss Lincoln’s Legacy in Harlem

Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones will lead a discussion with historians and scholars about President Abraham Lincoln’s legacy in Harlem as part of the bicentennial celebration of Lincoln’s birth. The event will take place at Harlem Stage Gatehouse, on Tuesday, February 17 at 7:30 pm.


Jones is currently preparing a new work inspired by the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln, entitled Fondly Do We Hope…Fervently Do We Pray. Panelists will include historian Barnet Schecter and NYU history professor Michele Mitchell. The event will also include an actor from the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company reading select documents from the era to contextualize the questions at hand.


One of the world’s leading choreographers, Jones won a2007 Tony Award for his choreography of Spring Awakening. He also directed and choreographed the musical Fela! earlier this season.
