American Idol‘s Taylor Hicks Extends Engagement as Teen Angel on Grease Tour

Taylor Hicks, who was named champion of season five of FOX-TV’s American Idol, will extend his engagement on the national tour of Grease during the 2009-2010 season.

Hicks plays the role of Teen Angel, which he also portrayed in the Broadway production of the show. Since appearing on Idol in 2006, Hicks released a self-titled CD and a memoir Heart Full of Soul: An Inspirational Memoir About Finding Your Voice and Finding Your Way. He will release his new studio album, The Distance, on March 10.

The musical features book, music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Additional songs from the film are by Barry Gibb, John Farrar, Louis St. Louis and Scott Simon. As on Broadway, the production is directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall, with sets by Derek McLane, costumes by Martin Pakledinaz, lighting by Kenneth Posner, and sound by Brian Ronan.

Upcoming tour stops include Music Hall, Tucson, AZ (February 24-March 1), Civic Theatre, San Diego, CA (March 3-8), Pantages Theatre, Los Angeles, CA (March 10-22), Golden Gate Theatre, San Francisco, CA (March 24-April 19), Keller Auditorium, Portland, OR (April 21-26), Orange County Performing Arts Center, Costa Mesa, CA (April 28-May 10), 5th Avenue Theatre, Seattle, WA (May 12-30), Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, Appleton, WI (June 2-7), and Fisher Theatre, Detroit, MI (June 9-28).
