Rosenblat, Stern, et al. Set for New Musical 27 Rue de Fleurus

Urban Stages will present the new musical 27 Rue de Fleurus, about Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas March 1-April 6, with an opening set for March 6. The show features book and lyrics by Ted Sod, music and lyrics by Lisa Koch, and will be directed by Frances Hill.

In the show, the celebrated couple confronts each other about love, marriage, jealousy, genius and a few other delicious topics while Pablo Picasso, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Mabel Dodge, Sylvia Beach and even Jean Harlow drop by for a visit.

The production will star Cheryl Stern as Alice B. Toklas and Barbara Rosenblat as Gertrude Stein. Also included in the cast are Sarah Chalfy, Susan Haefner, and Emily Zacharias. The creative team will include John Bell (musical director), Jessica Hayden (choreography), Roman Tatarowicz (sets), Carrie Robbins (costumes), Raquel Davis (lighting), and Alex Koch (video design).

Sod’s previous work includes Stealing, Damaged Goods, and Not Sunset Boulevard. Koch is the composer/lyricist of The Bouffants Go to Hollywood, Ham for the Holidays, Two’s Company, I’m a Crowd, and Glazing Saddles. Hill’s directing credits include Chili Queen, Seven Rabbits on a Pole, and Comfort Women.
