Last night, the Roundabout Theatre Company opened its presentation of the Menier Chocolate Factory's revival of Sunday in the Park with George, to nearly unanimous raves. Here's director Sam Buntrock with his two stars Jenna Russell and Daniel Evans, who won Olivier Awards for their performances as Dot/Marie and George, respectively.
The Broadway cast of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Pulitzer Prize-winning musical also includes Jessica Molaskey and Michael Cumpsty, who portray married couple Yvonne and Jules, who is George's friend and rival painter.
Alexander Gemignani delivers a memorable performance as the Boatman in the first act, and Dennis in the second.
Mary Beth Peil is superb as George's mother, especially when singing the song, "Beautiful."
The opening night crowd included the lovely Jane Krakowski, who appeared in the Roundabout's 1995 revival of Company.
Boyd Gaines also appeared in the Roundabout's Company, and will be starring in the upcoming Broadway revival of the the Jule Styne-Stephen Sondheim-Arthur Laurents musical, Gypsy.
Legendary film actress Lauren Bacall was also on hand for Sunday's opening night.
Euan Morton appeared in the Roundabout's Howard Katz last year, and will be seen next in a cabaret engagement at the Oak Room.
Jessica Hecht was also in the cast of the Roundabout's Howard Katz.
Mario Cantone, who co-starred in the Roundabout's Assassins, was another opening night guest.
Tommy Tune, who will be receiving this year's Astaire Lifetime Achievement Award, was also on hand.
Julia Murney cuddles up with Ed Dixon, who portrays Mr. Charles in the Sunday revival.
Bob Balaban was another opening night guest.
The handsome Max Von Essen, who last appeared in the Carnegie Hall concert staging of Jerry Springer -- the Opera, stopped by to wish the cast well.
