The Irish Repertory Theatre has been named this year’s recipient of the Jujamcyn Theatres Award, which carries a grant of $100,000. The award, which was created in 1984, is given to a resident theater organization that has made an outstanding contribution to the development of creative talent to the theater. The award will be presented at a ceremony on Tuesday, March 13 at Marseille restaurant.

Over the past 19 years, the Irish Rep has presented works by such playwrights as George Bernard Shaw, John Millington Synge, Samuel Beckett, and Brian Friel. It has also produced numerous musicals, including a critically acclaimed revival of Finian’s Rainbow and its current offering, Meet Me in St. Louis. It’s next production, Stuart Carolyn’s Defender of the Faith, is scheduled to begin previews on March 1. The company also hosts the free New Works Reading Series.

The company is currently undertaking a six million dollar capital campaign to purchase its theater, rehearsal studio, and administrative offices on West 22nd Street.
