D’Arcy James, Powers, et al. Set for Lyrics & Lyricists‘ Irving Berlin Show

Ivy Austin, Brian d’Arcy James, Max Morath, Jenny Powers, and Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks will be the guest performers at Say It with Music: The Songs of Irving Berlin, to be presented as part of the 92nd Street Y’s acclaimed Lyrics and Lyricists series, March 17-19. Robert Kimball will be the show’s artistic director, and CBS newscaster Charles Osgood will be the host.

In this program, Kimball and company will explore how Berlin’s work over the course of 80 years reflected the evolving cultural landscape of America. Berlin’s work includes such classic songs as “God Bless America,” “Easter Parade,” “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “Always,” and hundreds of others.

Austin has been a longtime regular on A Prairie Home Companion and has appeared in many Lyrics & Lyricists shows. D’Arcy James is currently on Broadway in The Apple Tree; his other Broadway credits include Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Sweet Smell of Success, and Titanic. Morath is a specialist in ragtime music; his recordings include Irving Berlin: The Ragtime Years. Powers appeared on Broadway in Little Women and in the City Center Encores! productions of Follies and Of Thee I Sing. Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks have appeared at such venues as The Rainbow Room, the Copacabana, and Iridium.
