Andreas, Cox, Ivey, Oscar, et al. Receive Helen Hayes Nominations

Nominations for the 2007 Helen Hayes Award nominations, honoring the best of Washington D.C.-area theater, have been announced. The awards will be bestowed on April 16 at the Warner Theater.

Arena Stage led the pack with 27 nominations, including 10 nods for its production of Cabaret. In addition to its nomination as Best Resident Musical, it earned three nods for its lead actors, Glenn Seven Allen, Walter Charles, and Brad Oscar, and a lead actress nod for Meg Gillentine. The Arena’s productions of She Loves Me and 3 Mo’ Divas also earned multiple nominations.

The Shakespeare Theatre Company received 21 nominations while the Folger Theatre earned 11 nominations. Among the notable acting nominees from those theaters were Veanne Cox for The Beaux Strategem, Rick Foucheux for An Enemy of the People, and Geraint Wyn Davies for Love’s Labour’s Lost.

The national tour of Spamalot received a nod for Best Resident Production as well as nominations for performers Michael Siberry, Tom Deckman, Jeff Dumas, Rick Holmes, and David Turner. The Kennedy Center also earned nods for Best Resident Production for The Light in the Piazza — which earned acting nods for Christine Andreas, David Burnham, Elena Shaddow, and Laura Griffith — and for Twelve Angry Men. In addition, its production of The Subject Was Roses earned acting nominations for stars Judith Ivey, Steve Kazee, and Bill Pullman.
