The Drowsy Chaperone, the critically acclaimed new musical featuring a score by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and a book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, will begin performances on Broadway at the Marquis Theatre on April 3 and will open officially on May 1. The production is directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw.

Tony Award winner Sutton Foster heads the cast of 17, which also includes Danny Burstein, Georgia Engel, Edward Hibbert, Troy Britton Johnson, Eddie Korbich, Garth Kravits, Jason Kravits, Beth Leavel, Kecia Lewis-Evans, Bob Martin, Jennifer Smith, Lenny Wolpe, Linda Griffin, Angela Pupello, Joey Sorge, and Patrick Wetzel. The show features scenic design by David Gallo, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Ken Billington and Brian Monahan, sound design by Acme Sound Partners, and orchestrations by Larry Blank.

Seen earlier this season at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, The Drowsy Chaperone concerns a modern-day musical theater addict known simply as “Man in Chair” (Martin), who drops the phonograph needle onto his favorite LP: the 1928 musical comedy The Drowsy Chaperone. The uproariously funny musical then magically bursts to life on stage, telling the tale of a pampered Broadway starlet (Foster) who wants to give up show business to get married; her producer (Wolpe), who sets out to sabotage the nuptials; her chaperone (Leavel); the debonair groom (Johnson); the dizzy chorine (Smith); the Latin lover (Burstein); and a pair of gangsters who double as pastry chefs (Garth and Jason Kravits).
