Signature Theatre Company will honor Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Horton Foote at its annual gala at 6:30pm on Monday, March 13, to be held at the Ritz Carlton New York in Battery Park. The gala will take place on the eve of Foote’s 90th birthday.

President Bill Clinton and his wife, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton are the evening’s honorary chairs. Among the guests who will attend or pay tribute to Foote are Edward Albee, Lee Blessing, Matthew Broderick, Ellen Burstyn, Robert Duvall, John Guare, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Adrienne Kennedy, Harper Lee, Romulus Linney, Edward Norton, Lois Smith, Jean Stapleton, and Harris Yulin.

Foote was Signature’s playwright-in-residence during the 1994-1995 season. The company also produced his play The Last of the Thorntons in its 2000-2001 season, and is currently producing a revival of his 1954 work The Trip to Bountiful, which will close on March 11 after a four-month run.

During the gala, the company will also give its inaugural Signature Playwrights’ Award to the Shubert Foundation, in recognition of its support and contribution to the American theater. Tickets to the event are $500-$1,000 and can be purchased by calling 212-967-1913, ext 28.
