Martin Short’s Fame Becomes Me to Hit Broadway in August After San Francisco and Chicago Tryouts

Martin Short’s autobiographically-inspired musical Fame Becomes Me will begin its pre-Broadway run at San Francisco’s Curran Theater, April 25-May 21. The production will then move to the LaSalle Bank Theater in Chicago, July 5-16, and open on Broadway on August 10, at a Shubert Theater to be named.

The show will be directed by Scott Wittman, with music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Shaiman and Wittman, and a book by Short and playwright Daniel Goldfarb. The show’s creative team will include Christopher Gattelli (choreography), Scott Pask (set design) and Jess Goldstein (costume design). The actor will share the stage with a supporting cast, which has yet to be announced.

Short received a Tony Award for Best Actor for his last Broadway outing, the Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of Little Me, and received a Tony nomination and Theater World Award for the musical The Goodbye Girl. He starred as Leo Bloom in the L.A. production of The Producers. He has appeared in numerous films, including Father of the Bride, and on many television series including SCTV and Saturday Night Live.
