Liev Schrieber will take on the title role in The Public Theater’s production of Macbeth, which will play the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park from June 13 through July 9. Moisés Kaufman, best known for his work on I Am My Own Wife and The Laramie Project, will direct the production. No other casting has yet been announced.

Schreiber has a long history of performing the Bard’s work for the Public, including previous Shakespeare in the Park productions of Cymbeline and Henry V and mainstage productions of Hamlet and Othello (in which he was a memorable Iago). He won a 2005 Tony Award for his performance as Ricky Roma in Glengarry Glen Ross and has also starred on Broadway in Betrayal and In the Summer House.

The Public’s second Shakespeare in the Park show this year will be Tony Kushner’s new adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage, starring Meryl Streep and directed by George C. Wolfe. No specific dates for that production have been announced. For more information, visit www.publictheater.org.
