Goodman Season to Feature Stacy Keach in King Lear and New Works by Galati, Haidle, and Nelson

A new production of Shakespeare’s King Lear, starring award-winning actor Stacy Keach and directed by Tony Award winner Robert Falls, will kick off the Goodman Theatre’s 2006-2007 season in September. No specific dates have been announced for the productions.

Following Lear, the Goodman’s Albert Theatre will feature a production of August Wilson’s last play, Radio Golf, directed by Kenny Leon, in January 2007. It will be followed by Oedipus Complex, a re-telling of the famed Greek myth fused with the words and ideas of Sigmund Freud, to be adapted and directed by Tony winner Frank Galati. That production will begin performances in April 2007.

In October, The Goodman’s Owen Theatre will host Vigils, a new play by Noah Haidle (Mr. Marmalade), about a widow deciding whether to move on with her life, to be directed by Kate Whoriskey. In November, Falls will direct Frank’s Home, a new drama by famed playwright Richard Nelson (The Dead) about architect Frank Lloyd Wright. That show is a co-production with Playwrights Horizons.

Keach received a Tony Award nomination for Arthur Kopit’s Indians, and received one of his four Drama Desk Awards for that performance. His other Drama Desk Awards were for the Off-Broadway productions of MacBird, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, and Hamlet. His other Broadway credits include The Kentucky Cycle, Deathtrap, and the 1968 production of King Lear, in which he played Edmund.
