Laura Esterman, Jenn Harris, and Mark Rosenthal will star in the New York premiere production of Gip Hoppe’s Mercy on the Doorstep at the Flea Theatre, March 14-May 6. Directed by Jim Simpson, the show will open officially on March 23.

Previously seen at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater in Cape Cod, the play tells the story of Corinne, an alcoholic widow who must learn to co-exist with Rena, her born-again, right-wing stepdaughter. Hoppe’s other plays include Jackie: An American Life and Cuckooland. The creative team of the Flea production includes Susan Zeeman Rogers (sets), Nathalie Ferrier (costumes), Kevin Hardy (lighting), and Rick Arnoldi (sound). Simpson is artistic director of the Flea, where he has directed such works as The Guys.

Esterman has appeared on Broadway in God’s Favorite and The Show Off; she played Sarah Bernhardt in Duet Off-Broadway and won the Obie, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her performance in Marvin’s Room. Harris won the Lucille Lortel and Theatre World Awards for Modern Orthodox; she has also starred in Silence! The Musical and Ashley Montana in the Caicos. Rosenthal’s Off-Broadway credits include After Ashley and The Moonlight Room.
