Anatevka, Anatevka: Pictured here at the Minskoff Theatre during curtain calls of last night’s opening performance of Fiddler on the Roof are star Alfred Molina and cast. The new Broadway production of the classic Bock-Harnick-Stein musical is directed by David Leveaux.
The joy of the Fiddler opening was dimmed when Sonia Cullinen, the sister of original Fiddler director-choreographer Jerome Robbins, suffered a heart attack just before the performance began and died shortly thereafter. Still, the show — and the opening night party — went on. Here are stars Alfred Molina and Randy Graff at the celebration, held just across the street from the Minskoff at the Marriott Marquis.
On Tuesday, February 24, Nicky Silver’s Beautiful Child opened Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre. Seen here during the after-party at Link are two of the show’s stars, Penny Fuller and George Grizzard.
Also on hand for the Beautiful Child fete was another of the cast members, Steven Pasquale (right), here with fiancée Kate Levering (42nd Street, Thou Shalt Not) and stage and film star Taye Diggs.
Another stage and film star, Hugh Jackman continues to bowl over audiences with his tour-de-force performance as Peter Allen in Broadway’s The Boy From Oz. Here, Jackman is pictured at Borders Book Store in the new Columbus Circle shopping mall, where he signed copies of the show’s cast album on Friday, February 20.
On Thursday, February 19 at the Westside Theatre, a one-night-only concert titled Embrace! was held to benefit the Matthew Shepard Foundation. The evening was hosted by the omnipresent Charles Busch…
….and one of the concert’s fantastic performers was Raúl Esparza, who sang a little-known but very beautiful song by Stephen Schwartz.
February 19 was also opening night for Sarah Jones’s new show bridge and tunnel at 45 Bleecker. Pictured here at the after-party for the show, held at the Maritime Hotel, are Jones (center) with Sarah Jessica Parker (left) and Meryl Streep, one of the show’s producers.
Another notable on hand for the bridge and tunnel party was Sean Combs, soon to be appearing on Broadway in A Raisin in the Sun.
On Wednesday, February 18, Paul Weitz’s new play Roulette opened at the John Houseman. Pictured here are three of the show’s stars (left to right), Ana Gasteyer, Shawn Hatosy, and Anna Paquin…
…and here’s Gasteyer again with the show’s director, Trip Cullman.
The previous night marked the opening of Terrence McNally’s The Stendhal Syndrome in a Primary Stages production at the new 59E59 Theaters complex. Here are stars Richard Thomas and Isabella Rossellini during curtain calls…
…and here’s McNally with Nathan Lane at the after-party. (Looks like that feud really is over!)
We leave you with two photos from the Keen Company benefit “Keen in Love,” held at Carolines Comedy Club on Monday, February 16. Here’s Carl Forsman, the company’s artistic director (left) with Brian d’Arcy James, who won an Obie Award for his performance in the Keen production of Conor McPherson’s one-man play The Good Thief…
…and here is a trio of fabulous playwrights: Tina Howe, Keith Reddin, and David Auburn.
