Broadway Press Agent Mary Bryant Dies at 71

Broadway press agent Mary Bryant died of a brain hemmorage on Sunday at her home in Hillsdale, NY. She had been battling brain cancer since 1999 and she was 71 at the time of her death.

Born in 1932, Bryant studied drama at the University of Miami. She began her career as an actress but first worked as a press agent for the original Broadway production of Fiorello! in 1959. Among her many subsequent credits, she represented the original productions of every Harold Prince-Stephen Sondheim musical from Company to Merrily We Roll Along. She also represented a number of Prince’s other shows, including She Loves Me, Cabaret, On the Twentieth Century, Evita, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, and Show Boat.

In recent years, Bryant worked as the New York publicist for Garth Drabinsky’s Livent, Inc. In that capacity, she represented such shows as Ragtime and Fosse.

Bryant is survived by her mother. Private funeral services will be held in Miami.
