Midtown International Theatre Festival Seeks Scripts for New Play Reading Series
The Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF), now in its fourth year, has announced a new play reading series, “MITF Sundays,” aimed at playwrights seeking to develop their works for production.
MITF executive producer John Chatterton is particularly interested in plays that may not have yet fully realized their potential. “It’s hard for a playwright to know when a play isn’t finished,” Chatterton says. “Hearing it
aloud and getting comments are a way to find out where you need to go next.”
Interested playwrights should send their scripts to MITF Sundays, c/o Midtown International Theatre Festival, 347 West 36th Street, #1204, New York, NY 10018. There is a $10 reading fee for all plays, as well as a $50 fee charge for use of the space if a play is selected for a staged reading. All $10 checks should be made out to “MITF Sundays” and all submissions should include contact information and a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Those interested in volunteering as directors or musical directors for the readings should e-mail résumés to scripts@oobr.com.
The readings will be held on Sunday evenings at the Where Eagles Dare rehearsal studio (347 West 36th Street, #1204, between Eighth and Ninth avenues).
