Record labels Ghostlight/Sh-K-Boom Records and Razor & Tie Music Publishing have formed a joint venture to sign the talents of the new generation of theatrical composers and writers.
"Through our new publishing venture we hope to fill a major void in the musical-theater community," Sh-K-Boom cofounder Kurt Deutsch said in a statement. "There are very few publishers who are willing to focus and spend the time to help nurture theatrical songwriters in developing their craft. We will identify talent early and help these writers and artists to find success both in the theater community as well as on a larger scale."
"There are many talented artists and writers who start out writing for theater, but whose talents can and should be recognized on a broader level," added Razor & Tie co-owner Craig Balsam. "Our new venture will allow theatrical songwriters to cross over and have success in other arenas such as pop, country, film, and television."
The first performer signed in this new venture is Shaina Taub, a songwriter who blends the world of pop performance and theater music. She can currently be seen in Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812.
