Abingdon Mainstage Theatre has announced that it will continue its 21st season with the world premiere of Hellman v. McCarthy by Brian Richard Mori. Previews are set to begin March 14, before an official press opening on March 26 at the June Havoc Theatre. Off-Broadway performances run through April 13. Jan Buttram, artistic director of Abingdon Theatre Company, will direct.

Hellman v. McCarthy takes place during one of the greatest literary feuds in modern American history. On January 25, 1980, literary critic Mary McCarthy appeared as a guest on The Dick Cavett Show and declared that "every word [playwright Lillian Hellman] writes is a lie," spurring Hellman to sue McCarthy for libel.

Emmy Award winner Dick Cavett (The Rocky Horror Show) will play himself. Joining Cavett are Roberta Maxwell (Summer and Smoke) as Lillian Hellman and Marcia Rodd (Last of the Red Hot Lovers) as Mary McCarthy. Peter Brouwer, Rowan Michael Meyer, and Jeff Woodman complete the cast.

The design team features set design by Andrew Lu, lighting design by Travis McHale, costume design by Tony Award nominee Jane Greenwood, and sound design by Ian Wehrle.
