Second Stage Theatre has added a revival of Jon Robin Baitz's The Substance of Fire to its current 35th-anniversary season. Directed by Trip Cullman, the drama will begin performances April 22, with an opening night set for May 12.

Baitz, who was most recently represented on Broadway with Other Desert Cities, made his New York playwriting debut at Second Stage in 1988 with The Film Society. The Substance of Fire follows Isaac Geldhart, the patriarch of a family publishing house, as his children struggle to convince him to publish a much-needed best seller. The work premiered in 1991 at Playwrights Horizons and was adapted for film in 1996.

Casting and additional information about the production will be announced in the coming months.
