Daniel Radcliffe Will Return to Broadway This Spring in Martin McDonagh’s The Cripple of Inishmaan

In a late entry into the 2013-2014 Broadway season, Daniel Radcliffe will return to the stage this March in Michael Grandage’s production of Martin McDonagh’s The Cripple of Inishmaan. The dark comedy will play the Cort Theatre beginning April 12, with an opening night set for April 20.

Radcliffe, best known for his screen role as Harry Potter and his past appearances on stage in Equus and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, takes on the role of Cripple Billy, a young man whose big dreams of Hollywood may come to fruition when he hears that the film Man of Aran is being shot on a neighboring island.

Grandage’s production of The Cripple of Inishmaan originated at the Noel Coward Theatre in London, where it played from June-August 2013 as part of the new Michael Grandage Company’s West End season. The full London company, including Ingrid Craigie, Pádraic Delaney, Sarah Greene, Gillian Hanna. Gary Lilburn, Conor MacNeill, Pat Shortt, and June Watson, is expected to transfer with the production.

The creative team includes Christopher Oram (scenic and costume design), Paule Constable (lighting design), Alex Baranowski (composer and sound design), and Campbell Young (wig and hair design).

The Cripple of Inishmaan was first seen in New York in 1998 at the Public Theater in a production directed by Jerry Zaks. It was revived in 2008 by Ireland’s Druid Theater Company, a production which later played Off-Broadway’s Atlantic Theater Company under the helm of Garry Hynes.
