Tom Sturridge is on the road to Broadway.

The British stage and screen veteran will make his New York debut opposite the previously announced Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) and Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) in the upcoming Broadway production of Lyle Kessler's drama Orphans. Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan (Glengarry Glen Ross) directs the work, which begins previews on March 19 in advance of an April 7 opening at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

In Orphans, Sturridge, who appeared as Carlo Marx (the Allen Ginsburg stand-in) in the recent film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's On the Road, will play Philip, the youngest of a pair of orphaned brothers who kidnap a rich older man (Baldwin) and end up potentially finding the father figure they have yearned for.

Sturridge has been seen in the films Vanity Fair, Being Julia, Like Minds, The Boat that Rocked, and Junkhearts, among others. He made his London stage debut in Simon Stephens' play Punk Rock, for which he received a Critics' Circle Best Newcomer Award. He has also appeared in Stephens' Wastwater and Polly Stenham's No Quarter.

Orphans will be produced by Frederick Zollo and Robert Cole. The work had its premiere in 1983 at Los Angeles' Matrix Theatre, and was later produced in New York by the Steppenwolf Theatre Company at the Westside Arts Theatre starring Terry Kinney, Kevin Bacon, and John Mahoney. Anderson co-starred in the 1987 film version alongside Albert Finney and Matthew Modine.
