Maybe it does take a dating show to find your one-and-only.

Nobody Loves You, Gaby Alter (Band Geeks!) and Itamar Moses (Bach at Leipzig)’s new musical comedy about finding love on a reality show, will complete Second Stage Theatre‘s 2012-2013 season, running at the company’s Tony Kiser Theatre off-Broadway this summer. Michelle Tattenbaum (The Sublet Experiment) directs the work, which features choreography by two-time Emmy nominee Mandy Moore (the dancer, not the singer). Casting and additional details will be announced in the future.

In a plot that actually seems one step ahead of the world that gave us Temptation Island, Rock of Love with Bret Michaels, and A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, Alter and Moses’ musical follows a philosophy graduate student so determined to win back his ex-girlfriend that he auditions for – and is cast on – a reality dating show. (This always works.) An unexpected love connection on-set threatens to derail his genius plan. The musical had its world premiere in the summer of 2012 at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre. Featured in the cast were Jenni Barber (From Up Here), Alex Brightman (Glory Days), Heath Calvert (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Kate Morgan Chadwick (Grease), Adam Kantor (Rent), Kelsey Kurz (The Rocky Horror Show), Nicole Lewis (Hair), and Lauren Molina (Sweeney Todd).

Book writer and co-lyricist Moses is also the author of the plays The Four of Us, Yellowjackets, Back Back Back, and Completeness, as well as the musical Fortress of Solitude. He has written for the acclaimed television programs Boardwalk Empire and Men of a Certain Age. Composer and co-lyricist Alter is the author of the musicals 29, Young Zombies in Love, and Vapor Tales. Along with So You Think You Can Dance, Moore’s choreography has been seen in Silver Linings Playbook, and American Idol, among many others.

Tattenbaum has directed Moses’ plays Love/Stories (or But You Will Get Used to It), The Four of Us, Szinhaz, and Untitled Short Play. Her site-specific touring production, The Sublet Experiment, ran in New York City for over six months. As a staff member of Manhattan Theatre Club, she developed and produced new musicals including A Class Act and Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party.
