Mario Cantone, Neil Simon, Dan Stevens Head to Roundabout Theatre Company’s Opening Night Picnic

Roundabout Theatre Company celebrated the opening night of their newest revival of William Inge’s Picnic, directed by wunderkind Sam Gold, at the American Airlines Theatre on Sunday January 13th, 2013.

Picnic debuted on Broadway in 1953 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. In the 2013 revival, Tony Award winner Ellen Burstyn stars in this new production as Mrs. Helen Potts, opposite Sebastian Stan and Maggie Grace as romantic leads Hal and Madge. Set over Labor Day weekend, the work follows the relationship between Hal, a handsome young drifter, and the beautiful Madge. When Hal is run out of town, Madge is forced to decide whether their brief romantic encounter is worth following.

Guests at the opening night performance included Sebastian Stan’s Gossip Girl costars Margaret Colin and Chace Crawford, Twilight‘s Mia Maestro, Alexandra Silber (Master Class), Blythe Danner (Nice Work If You Can Get It), Santino Fontana (Cinderella), Stephen Karam (Sons of the Prophet), Adam Chanler-Berat (Peter and the Starcatcher), Dana Ivey (The Importance of Being Earnest) , Elizabeth Wilson (Waiting in the Wings), Jane Alexander (The Lady from Dubuque), Mario Cantone (Laugh Whore), legendary Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Neil Simon, Tony Award winner Frances Sternhagen (The Heiress), Simon Jones (You Never Can Tell), Hamish Linklater (Seminar), Lily Rabe (American Horror Story), Katherine Waterston (Bachelorette), Ari Graynor (The Performers) , Tovah Feldshuh (Volpone), and Walter Bobbie (Golden Age).
