Tony Award Winner Patricia Neway Has Died

Patricia Neway, who won the Tony Award for her role as the Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music, died in Vermont on January 24 of natural causes, according to reports. She was 92.

Her many other theater and opera credits include The Consul, La Vie Parisienne, The Dybbuk, Six Characters in Search of an Author,The Rape of Lucretia, Maria Golovin, The King and, and Carousel.


She also appeared in television productions of Carousel and The Consul, as well as a 1966 television production of Tennessee WIlliams’ 10 Blocks on the Camino Real, alongside Lotte Lenya, Martin Sheen, and Tom Aldredge.
