Renée Fleming, Paulo Szot Set for Festival d’Aix-en-Provence

The 64th annual Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, will be presented July 5 – 27, in multiple locations — many of them open-air — in and around the picturesque ancient Provençal city: castles, a cathedral, a basilica, a palace courtyard, a historical site dating back to the 11th century BC, and an 18th century theatre.

The festival will feature opera, musical theater productions, orchestral concerts, solo recitals, chamber music performances, world music programs, and more.

Tony Award winner Paulo Szot will be featured alongside Malin Byström, Patricia Petibon, Kyle Ketelsen in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. Richard Brunel will direct, with Jérémie Rhorer leading Le Cercle de l’Harmonie and the Chorus of Les Arts Florissants,

Additional opera and musical theater works will include Mozart’s La finta giardiniera, featuring Layla Claire, Julien Pregardien, and Colin Balzer; the world premiere of Written on Skin by George Benjamin and Martin Crimp, directed by Katie Mitchell and starring Barbara Hannigan and Bejun Mehta; the world premiere of Une Situation Huey P. Newton; Vies de Ya’seen Benbekhma et Ichen Bouachraoui by Jean Michel Bruyère and LFKs, with music by Thierry Arredondo, Laurent Dailleu, and Charles-Edouard de Surville; Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s David et Jonathas, featuring Dominique Visse; Maurice Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortileges; and Gioachino Rossini’s La Cambiale di matrimonio.

Among the concerts will be renowned soprano Renée Fleming singing works by Ravel and Dutilleux, with Valery Gergiev conducting the London Symphony Orchestra.
