NBC and iTheatrics to Launch NBC’s ‘Smash’: Make a Musical

NBC will team up with iTheatrics for the launch of NBC’s ‘Smash’: Make a Musical, a philanthropic initiative that will help create sustainable musical theater programs in underserved schools nationwide.

The initiative, timed to coincide with the launch of the highly anticipated new television series Smash, will work with local schools across the country to stage their own productions and implement self-sustaining programs. Broadway master professionals will go into the 20 schools that have been selected as initial participants in the program, and mentor both students and teachers.

Cities to be included in the initiative’s launch are Atlanta, Boston, Baltimore/Washington DC, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Nashville, New York, Oakland, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Seattle, and St. Louis.

Smash will premiere on NBC on February 6. The show stars Christian Borle, Will Chase, Jack Davenport, Megan Hilty, Anjelica Huston, Brian d’Arcy James, Debra Messing, and Katharine McPhee, among others.
