The screenplay will be written by playwright William Nicholson, based upon the Victor Hugo book and the stage musical adaptation. Cameron Mackintosh is producing the film, which will be utilizing the musical's original score from Claude-Michel Schoenberg and Alain Boublil.

As previously reported, Hugh Jackman will play Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe will play Javert, Anne Hathaway will play Fantine, and Eddie Redymayne will play Marius.

In addition, Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter are reportedly signed to play the Thernardiers; Amanda Seyfried is negotiating for the role of Cosette, and Taylor Swift has been offered the role of Eponine.
