In anticipation of the series premiere of Smash on February 6, NBC and Columbia Records have released, for streaming and free download, one track from the pilot episode: Katharine McPhee’s rendition of Christina Aguilera’s hit “Beautiful.”

As previously reported, the series details the making of a Broadway musical about Marilyn Monroe. McPhee’s character, Karen Cartwright, is a young actress hoping to secure the title role in the musical-within-the-series, and uses “Beautiful” as her audition number.

The series also features Debra Messing, Christian Borle, Anjelica Huston, Katherine McPhee, Jaime Cepero, Will Chase, Jack Davenport, Raza Jaffrey, Brian d’Arcy James, and Savannah Wise, along with guest stars Becky Ann Baker, Dylan Baker, Norbert Leo Butz, Michael Cristofer, Grace Gummer, Michael Cristofer, Nick Jonas, Bernadette Peters, and Uma Thurman.

Smash is co-created and written by playwright Theresa Rebeck and has original songs by Tony Award winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Tony winner Michael Mayer has directed the pilot.
