Jon Kern’s play, entitled Modern Terrorism, has been named as the winner of the 2012 Laurents/Hatcher Foundation Award, according to The New York Times.

The award is given to an unproduced, full-length play of social relevance by an emerging American playwright. It carries both a $50,000 cash award to the selected playwright and a grant of $100,000 that goes directly towards the production costs of the play’s premiere at a nonprofit theater.

The award is named after Tony Award-winning playwright and director Arthur Laurents, who died in May of 2011 at age 93, and his longtime partner Tom Hatcher, who passed away in October 2006.
