Tony Award nominee Gabriel Byrne will star in Channel 4's mini-series Coup, according to published reports.

The four-part series is based on Chris Mullin's book, A Very British Coup, and features a screenplay by Robert Jones. Byrne will be playing the part of politician Tom Dawkins, who is drawn into a far-reaching conspiracy.

Byrne received a Tony nomination for his performance in A Moon for the Misbegottenj, with other New York credits including A Touch of the Poet on Broadway and the New York Philharmonic's Camelot. He recently directed Gerard Mannix Flynn's one-man show James X Off-Broadway.
