The Culture Project has returned to its former home at 45 Bleecker Street, and will be presenting a return engagement of one of its initial successes, Rinde Eckert’s And God Created Great Whales, beginning February 7.

Created, composed and written by Eckert, the show delves into the psyche of a composer who is trying to create an opera based on Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. David Schweizer will direct the performance, which will feature Eckert and Nora Cole.

The original production of And God Created Great Whales at Dance Theatre Workshop in early 2000 earned the piece an Obie Award and a Drama Desk nomination. The show was subsequently remounted at the 45 Bleecker Street Theatre and produced by Culture Project. Since then, it has been seen across the country, including at MassMoCa, the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art in Oregon, and Baltimore’s Center Stage.
