The musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, at the Foxwoods Theatre, has broken the record for the highest grossing week in Broadway history.

During the week ending on January 1, the musical played a 9-show holiday schedule, with the gross for the week totaling $2,941,790.20, exceeding the previous record of $2,228,235 which was set by Wicked in 2011.

Numerous other Broadway shows posted record-breaking amounts, including Wicked, which grossed over $2.7 million at the Gershwin Theatre. The Book of Mormon earned $1,752,601, breaking the O’Neill Theatre’s house record for the 24th time, and the Broadway production of The Lion King, now at the Minskoff Theatre, grossed a house record of $2,444,032.

The revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying also broke the box office record at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, grossing $1,910,224 for nine performances. The week was the final one for stars Daniel Radcliffe and Tony Award winner John Larroquette.

As previously reported, the final week of Hugh Jackman Back on Broadway brought in $2,057,354 at the Broadhurst Theatre, shattering that house’s record again.
