U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Salvatore A. Giunta, the first living person to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War, began the new year by attending Golf: The Musical, playing an Off-Broadway engagement at the Midtown Theater.

Giunta was this year’s guest of honor at the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball Drop, and he and Mayor Michael Bloomberg pressed the ceremonial button to signal the release of the famous crystal ball from atop the One Times Square Building.

The musical revue is based on a concept by Eric Krebs, and celebrates the fun, frustration and elation of this popular sport. Christopher Scott has directed the production, which features musical direction by Ken Lundie.

The cast includes Tom Gamblin, Lyn Philistine, Brian Runbeck, and Christopher Sutton.
