Michael Cerveris, Wendell Pierce, Harry Shearer, et al. Featured on Nine Lives CD-Set

Stage veterans Michael Cerveris, Wendell Pierce and Harry Shearer are among the artists featured on the new CD Nine Lives, A Musical Adaptation (Volume 1). The two-CD set will be released by Mystery Street Records on March 1.

The songs on the album by Colman deKay and Paul Sanchez have been inspired by the stories found in Dan Baum’s Nine Lives, an oral history of New Orleans from 1965 to 2005. The musical styles heard in the numbers include New Orleans jazz, rock, funk, chamber music, Mardi Gras Indian chants, 70s soul, hip-hop, brass band music, and rap and blues. In addition, deKay and Sanchez have conceived the project with the intent of ultimately staging the songs as a musical theater piece.

Also featured on the recording are Irma Thomas, Allen Toussaint, John Boutte, Lillian Boutte, Kevin Griffin, Michelle Shocked, Shamarr Allen, The Dixie Cups and Mayor Mitch Landrieu.
