Stage and screen star Martin Sheen and his son, film star Emilio Estevez, are writing a memoir, according to a report in The New York Times. The book, Along the Way, is set for a May 2012 publication by the Free Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

The actors will collaborate with writer Hope Edelman on the book, which will explore their lives as performers and as father and son.

Sheen is best known for his Emmy Award-winning work on NBC’s The West Wing. On Broadway he received a Tony Award nomination for his work in the original The Subject Was Roses. His many other stage credits include The Crucible, Death of a Salesman, Julius Caesar, and, most recently, a revival of The Subject Was Roses in Los Angeles. Among his many film credits are Apocalypse Now, Wall Street, That Championship Season, The American President, and Lost & Found. He is currently at work on the new Spider-Man film.
