Tony Award winner Lillias White will star in a special benefit concert performance of William Finn’s musical Romance in Hard Times, to be presented at the Baruch Performing Arts Center, on April 4.

The musical, set in a soup kitchen at the height of the Great Depression, centers on Hennie (originally played by White), a pregnant woman who wills herself to not give birth until the world is a better place. Her determination attracts the attention of the nation and its first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt.

White won an Obie Award for her performance in the musical. She won a Tony Award for her work in The Life, and most recently appeared on Broadway in Fela! Her other stage credits include Barnum, Dreamgirls, Cats, and Chicago. She received an Emmy Award for her recurring role on Sesame Street.

The evening is being held in support of Amas Theatre and Educational Programs and in celebration of Rosetta LeNoire’s 100th birthday.
