Jed Bernstein Announces Formation of Bucks County Playhouse Conservancy

Producer Jed Bernstein has announced the formation of the Bucks County Playhouse Conservancy, a non-profit that will help to revitalize the 450 seat theater, located in New Hope, PA on the Delaware River. The venue’s future became uncertain following a recent collapse in management and subsequent bank foreclosure.

Bernstein, with his associates, is advising the newly formed group on such matters as the development of a plan to buy and renovate the Playhouse property, as well as planning a 2011 season.

In announcing the formation of the Conservancy, Bernstein said “The entire theatre community was aghast at the idea of permanently losing this legendary venue and picturesque piece of theatre history. We have formulated a unique solution that we hope will ensure this landmark’s artistic and financial future for New Hope and Bucks County.”

The Bucks County Playhouse opened in 1939 on the site of a grist mill dating from the late eighteenth century, and it has been in continuous operation ever since.
