The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards, in which the Hollywood Foreign Press Association honors the best in film and television, were handed out in Beverly Hills on Sunday, January 16 and aired live on NBC. The ceremony was hosted by Ricky Gervais.

The Social Network was named Best Motion Picture, Drama; The Kids Are All Right was named Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, and Toy Story 3 was named Best Animated Motion Picture. David Fincher was named Best Director for The Social Network and Aaron Sorkin was recognized for his screenplay for that film.

FOX's series Glee won the award for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy, while HBO's Boardwalk Empire won for Best Television Series, Drama, and Carlos was named Best Movie or Miniseries Made for Television.

Acting awards were given to Christian Bale (The Fighter), Annette Bening (The Kids Are All Right), Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Chris Colfer (Glee), Claire Danes (Temple Grandin), Colin Firth (The King's Speech), Paul Giamatti (Barney's Version), Laura Linney (The Big C), Jane Lynch (Glee), Melissa Leo (The Fighter), Al Pacino (You Don't Know Jack), Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory), Natalie Portman (Black Swan), and Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy).

In addition, Robert DeNiro was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for Lifetime Achievement.
