Tony Award winner Doug Hughes will direct the world premiere musical Death Takes a Holiday, featuring a book by Peter Stone & Thomas Meehan, with music & lyrics by Maury Yeston. Roundabout Theatre Company will present the work at the Laura Pels Theatre, June 10-September 4, with an opening set for July 14.

In the musical, it’s just after the first World War and the loneliest of souls arrives at an Italian villa disguised as a handsome young Prince, and for the first time experiences the joys and heartbreaks of life. But when he unexpectedly falls in love with a newly engaged young woman, the mysterious stranger discovers that love may in fact be stronger than death. The musical is based on the dramatic play by Alberto Casella, rewritten for the American stage by Walter Ferris.

The production will feature musical direction by Kevin Stites. The cast and design team members will be announced at a later date.

Hughes won the Tony Award, among numerous other honors, for Doubt. He is currently represented Off-Broadway by The Whipping Man, and his many other New York credits include Oleanna, Mauritius, Inherit the Wind, Defiance, Flesh and Blood, and Frozen.
