Casting has been announced for the Off Broadway premiere of La Barbería (The Barbershop), a new Spanglish comedic drama by David Maldonado and Ari Maniel Cruz. Waddys Jacquez will direct the production, which will play an open-ended engagement at New World Stages, beginning February 3, with an official opening on February 17.

Set against a score of original contemporary Latin music emanating from the airwaves, La Barbería is a comedic and wistful portrait of a neighborhood in flux and a tribute to the strength of a community. It is performed mostly in Spanish.

The cast will feature Manny Perez, Mateo Gomez, Ruperto Vanderpool, Modesto Lacen, Sunilda Caraballo, Ivan Camilo, Graciany Miranda, Juan Carlos Diaz and Emme Bonilla.

The creative team will include Raul Abrego (sets), Sarah Sidman (lights), and Hochi Asiatico (costumes).
