Carmen in 3D, Featuring a Staging by Francesca Zambello, to Premiere at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in February

Carmen in 3D will premiere as the closing selection of the Santa Barbara Film Festival on February 6, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times. The movie is scheduled to open around the world on March 5.

The movie uses a Francesca Zambello’s staging of the Georges Bizet opera for the Royal Opera House in London and preserves performances from 2006, the first to be shot in 3-D for theatrical release.

The production stars Christine Rice in the title role, along with Bryan Hymel (Don Jose), Aris Argiris (Escamillo) and Maija Kovalevska (Micaëla).
