Antonevia Ocho Coltes will play the title role in puppet artist, writer and director Theodora Skipitares’ world premiere adaptation of Lysistrata, to be presented at La MaMa ETC, February 3-13, with an opening on February 6.

The production mixes Aristophanes’ ancient comic tale about a group of Greek women who withhold sex from their husbands and lovers with video and newsreel footage of actual modern-day international sex strikes.

The cast will also include Daniel Irizzary (as the Magistrate and Cinesias), Minna Taylor (as Myrrhine), and others.

Puppet design is by Cathy Shaw, Skipitares and Cecilia Schiller, lighting design is by Jesse Belsky, and costume design is by Lara de Bruijn. The production features an original score written and performed by Sxip Shirey, with choregraphy by Angela Harriell.
